Nirodhaḥ Yoga Blog
Our theme for August is Creativity, Uncertainty and Courage. On my first try at this article, I came up with a bunch of words about how being courageous means being in a position where you don’t know what the outcome will be, but you show up anyway (ala Brené Brown). Creativity is innately courageous, since it’s making something and not knowing exactly how it will turn out.
But it seemed trite, not creative or courageous at all. I realized that if I reeeeeally wanted to say something about uncertainty, fear, courage, and the creative state, I just needed to inhabit that state (blame my theater training). Creativity connects us. It can allow us to recognize the same feelings or thoughts in one another. It can build empathy, sharpen insight, and give meaning. Some people make physical art, perform, or dance with friends. Some garden or cook, others like to party-plan or decorate. And of course, moving our bodies on our mats is an expression of devotion and creativity. The point is, we all feel the creative impulse in some way. It is as natural to us as being born. It reminds me of meditation - which after all, creates (drum roll, please) new neural pathways. Realizing the true nature of “The Self” is like an unveiling. We all have the ability to self-realize because that understanding is already within us, we simply have to uncover it. Similarly, we all have the ability to realize and express our creative and courageous nature. I hope you will take it for a spin this month. Without any further ado, my humble creation. The Moment There is a moment A moment when you sink in. A melting into the water Where you’re floating. A dissipation into the ether From which you came. No one knows how you got there. You’re not sure you’ll ever go back. That is the moment To Know.

An ideal studio for someone new to yoga. |
